2024 Assistant Farm Manager Job Description
For the 2024 farm season, we are looking for an individual to be an assistant farm manager. This position is full time, five days a week April 1 through October 15 with some day-off watering and greenhouse responsibilities. This individual should have a basic understanding of vegetable and/or flower production and ideally some knowledge of reduced or no-till practices. The assistant manager will be working in close partnership with Lily (the owner of SAF) and he/she/they will be responsible for leading any additional field crew.
We are a very small team so emphasis is placed on finding individuals who work well with others and who will contribute to a positive work environment.
Requirements for this position include:
- A valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- A positive attitude, flexibility, eagerness to learn, and good team spirit.
- Ability to work efficiently alone or with others, maintaining a set pace.
- Prior farming experience of 1+ seasons (ideally in vegetable or flower production).
- Other outdoor work experience.
- Basic tractor experience.
- Housing on Martha’s Vineyard or Chappaquiddick.
- Experience in floral design work.
2024 Field Crew Job Description
For the 2024 summer season, we are looking for an individual to join our field crew full-time, June through August. The field crew position involves many aspects of vegetable and flower production including seeding, harvesting, planting, pruning, and weeding. We want you to walk away from a season at Slip Away with a firm understanding of the methods used in small, no-till agriculture.
Requirements for this position include:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- A positive attitude, flexibility, eagerness to learn, and good team spirit.
- Ability to work efficiently alone or with others, maintaining a set pace.
An ideal candidate would also have the following characteristics, although these are not required:
- Prior farm or other outdoor work experience.
- Housing on Martha’s Vineyard or Chappaquiddick
- A valid driver’s license
- 1+ years farming experience
